More survival kit advice
Split into rooms
When making your survival kit, put together the essentials you will want from every room so you could put them into different survival boxes. Items such as towels and toiletries will need to go in a bathroom box, while tea, snacks and utensils will go in the kitchen box.
By having a box per room, you can put it in the right place straightaway so you have everything you need as soon as you arrive at your new home.
Think about children
While adults can live with just a few basic things – such as pyjamas, toiletries and a change of clothes, for a couple of days – children typically require a lot more equipment to make them feel comfortable.
Do not forget that this is an unsettling time for young kids, so pack the items they will find most familiar and comforting in their survival kits, including some soft toys, favourite books and pictures.
Depending on the age of the youngsters, you might also have to make sure you pack baby monitors, changing equipment, lamps, and portable black-out blinds for a restful first night’s sleep in their new house.
It is also a good idea to have a box full of games, books and activities for them to do, as you will be very busy unpacking and cleaning for the first few days, so it’s wise to have items that will keep them entertained.
